Neurosurgery was one of the pioneered surgical speciality in image guided surgery. The main reason was the following. Neurosurgeons always need complex 3D multimodal information to plan and perform brain surgery. In this talk, we will present some of our research for making available this multimodal information before and during surgery, as well as the ongoing development of the corresponding software environment. The aim of our software development is to make easier intraoperative clinical data acquisition (such as 2D and 3D reconstructed US, 3D surfaces from stereoscopy, and 3D anatomical points) for studying Intraoperative brain deformations, as well as making easier clinical evaluation of new methods. Being able to develop robust and user-friendly software was another important requirement. We will describe the choices made for implementation by using IGSTK along with commercial clinical navigation systems.
